Owen Adams OBE, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Colleges and Student Experience)
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Colleges and Student Experience) is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the University's Colleges and Experience Durham, which co-ordinates University sport, staff and student volunteering and outreach, student theatre and music.
He leads University Strategy work on the Wider Student Experience, which aims to ensure that Durham students enjoy an unrivalled ethos and environment in which to pursue the highest quality of student experience, through which they will further develop qualities of independence, self-expression, creativity, teamwork, leadership and a strong sense of social citizenship.
Professional background and expertise
Owen joined Durham University in January 2017 from the British Army, where he most recently served as Commander at the Royal School of Artillery.
He previously served as Programme Director at the British Army’s Strategic Human Resources Board and Director at the UK Defence Academy. Prior to that, he commanded 40th Regiment Royal Artillery.
Owen is a Trustee of The Royal Artillery Centre For Personal Development.
Education and qualifications
Owen holds a Master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London, a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership from the Chartered Management Institute and a Master’s degree in Leadership and Management from Portsmouth University.
