Requesting Information

Durham University is committed to protecting the personal data with which it is entrusted. It provides access to such data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulations and the UK Data Protection Act 2018. It is also committed to sharing information as required of a public body subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

Before submitting an Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) request or Freedom of Information (FOI) request, please check whether the information you seek is already available on the University website, where a search facility is available to help you. The University regularly maintains publicly available information in its Publication Scheme.

Freedom of Information Requests

A request must be made in a permanent form by a named individual supplying a correspondence address, whether that be a postal address or an email account. Please email or write to the Information Governance Unit.

Environmental Information Regulations Requests

Please email or write to the Information Governance Unit. You may also make your request in person at the Reception desk of the Palatine Centre, Stockton Road, Durham, DH1 3LE

Subject Access Requests

If you wish to request information we hold about you, or in certain circumstances to request personal data about someone other than you

Charges: A charge may be made for the provision of information. Further details will be provided before the request is completed.

Student Support: Please direct requests for replacement degree parchments to Student Registry (Parchments) and please direct requests for verification of attendance/qualifications to Student Registry (Verifications).
