Professor Stefan Przyborski
As Interim Executive Dean (Science), Stefan will be responsible for the strategic development and financial performance of the Faculty of Science. He will be a key academic leader, supporting and enhancing research and teaching performance within his Faculty. As an integral member of the University Executive, he will also play an important ambassadorial role for his Faculty and the University as a whole.
Professional background and expertise
Stefan is Professor of Cell Technology in our Department of Biosciences and has been a principle investigator here since 2000.
Stefan has significant experience assessing research quality (REF2014, 2021 panel member) and managing the allocation of research funding and has served as Chair for several BBSRC, UKRI and NC3Rs grant awarding panels. He is currently co-Chair of the UKRI BBSRC Appointment Panel and President of the Anatomical Society for Great Britain and Ireland.
For the past four years, Stefan has acted as Deputy Head of the Faculty of Science, working across all eight departments and has led on University wide projects such as the Technician Commitment.
Stefan’s research is in animal cell biology and he has successfully commercialised his research through his University spinout company into market leading technology. He also leads major research programmes, collaborating with global corporates such as Procter & Gamble and has attracted multiple-millions in research funding.
Education and qualifications
Stefan completed his PhD in Sheffield and has had fellowships from the Royal Society for Enterprise and the MRC to research at the Jackson Laboratory USA. He has also worked with industry in Princeton.
