Welcome to Ustinov College
Ustinov College is Durham University’s exclusively postgraduate College, just over a mile from the city centre, surrounded by the green fields of Howlands Farm. The College is the place for postgraduate students to call home - a vibrant, safe and multinational community - supporting academic excellence and offering an unrivalled postgraduate student experience.
Why choose Ustinov?
Postgraduate students of every subject and from everywhere in the world receive a warm welcome at Ustinov. The community of 'Ustinovians' consists of 1600 postgraduate student members, representing 100 countries, conducting research or studying taught programmes in over 100 subjects.
Ustinov was named in honour of Sir Peter Ustinov, former Chancellor of the University and actor, writer, humanitarian, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He was a strong believer that education was fundamental for openness, tolerance and mutual respect. Following in Sir Peter's footsteps, we have created our Global Citizenship Programme, providing a unique environment in which postgraduate students can engage in interdisciplinary and intercultural projcets, designed to develop our student community.
The Graduate Common Room organise events and activities throughout the year, including holiday parties, formal dinners, pub quizzes and music nights, along with coach trips throughout the region. Clubs and societies include sports—from badminton to Ultimate Frisbee—and include groups devoted to anything from chess-playing to beer-brewing.
We look forward to welcoming you to our community!
