Participation in sport creates friendships and memories that last a lifetime and our programmes play an integral role in developing the lifelong bond that many of our students form with their College and the University.
The physical and mental health benefits associated with sport and exercise are well documented. With a student participation rate of 75%, Durham has a higher percentage of physically active students than any other institution in Britain.
With over 550 teams, across 18 sports, our College Sport structure is one of the largest and diverse intra-mural programmes in the world. Our recreational activities, open to both staff and students, engage a further 2,000 participants.
Participation in College or University Sport also plays a broader role in the well-being of many students, presenting opportunities to make friends, develop self-worth and feel part of a community.
