DRMC: Book Launch for Dr Keming Yang’s book ‘Analysing Intersectionality: A toolbox of methods' on Wednesday 28th February 2024 at 4.30pm

Abstract:
During the past few decades, intersectionality has become an increasingly important issue as well as a theoretical approach across many disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. However, methodological developments for empirical research have been much slower and less established in comparison with theoretical discussions. This book aims to bridge the gap between intersectionality as a
theory and an empirical research practice. It demonstrates how existing methods could help researchers uncover new insights while analysing the intersectional effects of multiple factors on experiences of disenfranchisement. It firstly provides a critical examination of long standing theories and methodologies in intersectionality research. Then it expands existing qualitative approaches by explaining the potential benefits and issues in analytical techniques such as qualitative comparative analysis, interaction terms in generalized linear regression models, multilevel models, mediation and moderation, and mixed methods designs. With real world research examples, further readings, and reflective questions, it will equip the reader with the methodological tools to understand and analyse intersectionality in specific social settings. In this event, Dr Yang will share his motivations for producing this book, explain the meaning of his ‘generic’ approach, highlight the key points, and answer questions from the audience.

The launch will be followed by a Q&A session and nibbles & drinks in The Business Lounge, Room MHL418.

This will be a hybrid event via zoom click here to join on the day.
