Title: Wiliam James on the Experience of Activity

Abstract

Do we experience our own activity? From around 1880 to 1906, the American philosopher and psychologist William James was sure that the answer to this question was 'no'. However, just a few years before his death, he changed his mind. In this paper, I argue that this led to dramatic changes in his psychology, pragmatism, and metaphysics.
