Department of Philosophy

About Us

Welcome to Durham Philosophy Department

Situated in the heart of a beautiful Cathedral City, the department occupies two charming former townhouses. It is surrounded by cafes, pubs and restaurants and is a few minutes' walk from the scenic banks of the River Wear. We have a departmental library, common room and post-graduate study room, as well as our own garden!

Philosophy at Durham is notably pluralist. Both in teaching and in research we cover an unusually diverse range of areas. For example, both ‘analytic’ and ‘continental’ styles of philosophy are well represented.
