A visit to Cosin's Library

26 October 2022 - 23 December 2022
Palace Green Library

Cosin’s Library is one of the earliest public libraries in the North East of England. Hidden in the heart of Durham, the library was founded in 1669 by Bishop John Cosin to give local people access to ‘good books’.

Enjoy the splendour of this 17th-century Library in the heart of Durham's World Heritage Site.

Cosin’s Library is open to the public Wednesday to Sunday between 11am and 3pm, and on Bank Holidays (except Christmas and New Year).

It is free to visit, and tickets can be booked via Eventbrite. If you are not able to make an online booking, please contact our reception desk in Palace Green Library on 0191 334 2932. Our visitor services team can then complete a booking on your behalf.

If you are a researcher interested in accessing books from Cosin’s Library, please make an appointment to visit the Barker Research Library.

We look forward to welcoming you.
