ACU Global Summer Schools
DEADLINE: 15th February 2019
The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is offering 20 grants of up to £2,000 for undergraduate students to travel to international summer schools during summer 2019, thanks to the ACU Global Summer School Grants scheme.
These grants are tenable at various summer schools hosted by ACU member universities, from Daffodil International University in Bangladesh to the University of Alberta in Canada. Applicants will be asked to identify a first and second choice of summer school on the application form.
To apply, you must meet both of these criteria:
- Registered as an undergraduate at an ACU member university in the UK
- A UK national who is ordinarily resident in the UK
In addition, you must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
- From a family with a combined annual parental income of under £25,000
- The first person in their family to go to university
- A care leaver
20 grants of up to £2000 GBP are available. The grant is intended to contribute to registration fees, travel to and from the summer school, and visa and vaccination costs. Successful applicants are responsible for arranging their own flights, registering for the summer school, and making their own visa and vaccination arrangements.
The total cost of flights plus registration fees and other costs will exceed £2000 for some of the summer schools, so applicants should carefully check the costs for each school using a currency converter (e.g. XE.com).
Successful applicants will be required to submit a short written report or video on their experiences to the ACU within a month of their return.
These grants are funded by the kind legacy of Major Harold William Paxton.
How to Apply
Fill in the application form (found below) and submit it to the Exchanges and Study Abroad Team by Friday 15 February.
When filling out the application form, please pick a first choice summer school (and an optional second choice) - a full list of participating universities is available here.
You will also need to answer a short series of questions on why you wish to attend the summer school, what you hope to bring to and gain from the event, and how you plan to share the knowledge gained when they return home.
The university will carry out an internal selection process using grading advice provided by the ACU, and nominate up to two candidates per institution by Friday 8 March. The ACU will then carry out the final round of selections.
Successful candidates will be notified by early April and will then be required to register for their choice of summer school.
