Global Opportunities and Placements
Instead of a Year Abroad, students may wish to undertake a (work) Placement Year. Usually these are conducted in the UK but a number of work placements are untertaken by students abroad. The Careers & Enterprise Centre have specific Faculty Placement Managers. Their role is to help students identify the right placement opportunities for them, ensure the placements are suitable, prepare the student fully for the placement, be a point of contact whilst the student is out on placement and assist the student reintegrate into University life upon their return. Further information is available on the dedicated Placement Year pages.
The University is working to secure funding with partners to support global internships for Durham students. If secured in 2021 this may include:
- Internships in China (Beijing) run with the British Council (Generation UK)
- Opportunities through a new Trusted Partnerships programme or self-found by students
- Bursaries for International volunteering.
These opportunities will be advertised here and on the University's (social) media channels.
Summer schools offer students the opportunity to undertake short-term additional study overseas. These courses are typically self-financed and are separate to your Durham degree. These opportunities will be published on the Summer School page, once they become available, usually be from January onwards.
