Each year Durham University is proud to welcome hundreds of incoming international exchange students from around the world for an unforgettable study-abroad experience. Students may come from our Erasmus+ and Overseas Exchange partner universities or as fee-paying Study Abroad students.
There are hundreds of reasons to come to Durham but here are just a few...
Durham is one of the world’s leading Universities as shown by our World Top 100 position in the QS World University Rankings 2021, where we are ranked 86th.
At Durham students are taught by academic staff who are acknowledged as experts in their fields and are at the forefront of developments in their subject area. For example, in 2020 Professor Carlos Frenk was cited as being Nobel Class for his contribution to physics. There is a worldwide demand for Durham's research expertiese and researchers. We are placed at the forefront of global challenges from managing hazards that affect thousands of people worldwide to helping to address the world’s energy challenges as we switch from fossil fuels to clean energy sources.
In Durham City you're among some of the world's finest architecture. This is a truly beautiful City, where the famous Castle and Cathedral - together designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site - dominate the skyline.
With a population of around 43,000 Durham has a compact, friendly feel but still provides the facilities you would expect of a thriving city including a number of cafés, bars and restaurants. The River Wear winds its way through the city, providing plenty of green spaces between the historic city and some of our purpose-built, landscaped facilities.
