Preparing for Durham

International Office Advice

Durham University International Office has prepared information and advice here for international students travelling to Durham.

Information is available on:

Enrolment and Registration

Students for all courses at the University will enrol and register for their course of study using the online system. This process includes:

  • Enrolment - where you check, confirm and update your personal information held by the University. You will also need to accept the University's regulations and you will be able to download your photograph for your Campus Card
  • Registration - where you check, confirm and sign up for your programme of study

Why you should enrol and register

  • only students who have registered and whose details are complete and accurate on the Student Records System will be able to have computer accounts with the IT service and Library access
  • so that our Student Records System has accurate information to be forwarded to the department you will be studying with after Pre-sessional
  • so that, in the case of any emergency, we have the most up-to-date information regarding your address and your emergency contact details
  • in order to receive funding, the University must complete statistical returns to Government Agencies giving accurate details about our student body

It is your responsibility to ensure that this information is correct and you can update your details at any time after you have completed enrolment

Enrolment: What will happen

  • once your details are entered onto the University Student Records System you will receive an email to your personal account giving you details of your ITS username, followed by a second email containing your password and a link to the Student Enrolment System. This username and password will also give you access to other IT facilities once you arrive, so please make sure you do not lose it
  • if you do not receive this email, it is probably because we do not have your personal email address. Do not worry, you will be able to enrol when you arrive at the English Language Centre
  • if you complete the first stage of this process and provide a valid passport style photograph in advance of arriving in Durham, you will be able to collect your Campus Card as soon as your identity has been verified by the English Language Centre with your passport. If you choose not to supply a photograph before you arrive you will need to do this when you arrive and this will delay the production of your Campus Card by a few days. Your Campus Card is an identification card that also provides access to Library facilities and to a number of University buildings
  • you must complete this part of the enrolment process before you can become a fully registered student
  • if you require any help through the process, please contact Gillian Scott at g.a.scott@durham.ac.uk . If you have a technical problem, please contact the IT service desk at itservicedesk@durham.ac.uk

If you are unable to complete this first stage of the process before you arrive in Durham, please do not worry, we have made arrangements for you to do this during your first few days at the English Language Centre and look forward to meeting you when you arrive.
