BALEAP Accreditation

The one, two and three month Pre-Sessional Programmes at Durham have been accredited by the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP), which sets rigorous criteria to ensure that courses in English Language and Study Skills for speakers of other languages are of a high standard and provide an excellent quality of service for their students.

Accreditation occurs every four years and the Durham Pre-Sessional was again very successfully accredited over three days in September 2012.

Comments from the 2012 report on our summer courses include:

“Students on the Pre-sessional Course benefit from a principled range of formative and formal assessments, which clearly reflect future academic needs. Students expressed high levels of overall satisfaction with the quality and amount of feedback received from tutors.”

Executive Summary, BALEAP Accreditation report 2012, p4-5

“The non-academic experience of students on the Durham Pre-sessional is excellent. Delivered in partnership with services in the university; of particular note is the complex support package offered by the recent involvement of Josephine Butler (JB) College (dedicated provider of Pre-sessional accommodation) in pastoral support and social activities programmes.”
