Medieval and Renaissance Postgraduate Discussion Group: 'Prophetic Nature in the Wars of the Roses: Folklore and Propaganda,' by Kirsten Bell

11th March 2008, 13:00 to 14:00, Seminar Room 1, History Department

The MRPDG evolved from the long-established medieval postgraduate discussion group operated by MA and PhD students in the History Department. The purpose of the group has remained unchanged but it now functions at a multi-disciplinary level with participation from postgraduate students from a range of departments involved with the CMRS. The group has a proud record of having met regularly for more years than anyone can currently remember!

The primary purpose of the discussion group is to provide a forum for postgraduate students to present papers related to their current research, or wider interests across a range of medieval and renaissance studies, to gain feedback from their peers and practice for giving papers at conference level in a relaxed environment. Papers are short (20 / 30 minutes) and are followed by questions. Each meeting lasts a maximum of 1 hour, including time for chat and refreshments. For many students this will be their first experience of delivering an academic paper and it is an important part of the group's purpose to be supportive and encouraging in these circumstances.
