The Jeremy Vine Scholarship in English Literature

Summary

The Jeremy Vine Scholarship in English Literature has been established to assist a UK student of Black Heritage, in need of financial support, throughout their undergraduate English Literature degree studies. The scholarship is available thanks to a generous donation from Durham alumnus Jeremy Vine and will enable Durham University to assist the successful applicant through their programme for up to four years of study commencing in academic year 2024/25. The successful applicant will need to meet the essential eligibility criteria associated with the scholarship and demonstrate a willingness to contribute towards University life.

Amount £4,000 per academic year which contributes to:
  • tuition fees
  • living costs
  • other associated costs of study

  1. The English Literature undergraduate degree, or
  2. An undergraduate degree in the Department of English Studies, with English Literature as a named element, or

Eligibility

Applicant must:

  • have a household income below £47,200 at the start of the 2024/25 academic year as assessed by Student Finance England (SFE) (or equivalent)
  • be planning to take up a place on an eligible undergraduate English Literature Programme at Durham University in the 2024/25 academic year
  • be a Home UK student of Black Heritage - African, Caribbean, Dual or Mixed Heritage (to include Black African, Black Caribbean or Other Black Background)
  • be educated at a state-maintained school, college or another secondary education provider for the whole of their education; (or, in the case of asylum seekers and refugees, the whole of their education since arrival in the UK)

Please note that receipt of funds will be dependent on receiving an offer to study at Durham University, meeting entry conditions and taking up a place at the University.

  2. Confirm your funding

    Please provide a copy of your Student Finance England (or equivalent) assessment letter, so that we can verify your household income (if you have not received this yet, you can provide it later) to english.studies@durham.ac.uk with the subject "Scholarship 2024" 

  3. Selection process
