PGCE International Wellington College China
The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (International) is being offered, through a collaborative partnership with Wellington College, China in Shanghai and Tianjin as a part time programme for two academic years.
Places will be offered to applicants who wish to train to teach Primary or Secondary pupils in an international school context.
The PGCE (Int.) is composed of three modules, a professional module and two academic modules at Masters level. The professional module consists of a taught programme structured around a set of standards linked to tasks which the students must show evidence of having successfully completed. It will be assessed at the end of the programme of study. This part of the course will be primarily school-based at Wellington College China schools in either Shanghai or Tinajin.
Durham University will deliver the academic elements of the course. Each student will be linked to an academic tutor in the School of Education at the University, who will be responsible for subject and pedagogical specific tasks and guidance for the two Masters level modules. There will be regular contact with the academic tutor in the form of email, skype or phone conversations. The students will have access to Durham's online teaching facility (DUO) and the Durham University Libraries.
The two Masters modules will be mainly delivered through the annual Reflective Practitioner Conference held in Durham each January, which PGCE (Int.) students are required to attend as part of their programme. Please note that the costs for travel and accommodation for the conference are not included in the programme fee. Students studying the programme with Wellington College China will complete the two Masters modules in their first year of study. These two modules form part of a Masters degree which can then, if the student desires, be completed part time over the two years following on from the end of the PGCE (Int.) course.
