Overlength Work

There is no University-wide policy on the penalties for submitting over-length assessed work at undergraduate or postgraduate level. TEIs are responsible for setting word count limits for each piece of summative assessment in line with the agreed ranges specified in the Common Awards assessment parameters. Any work submitted by students that exceeds this limit is over-length. TEIs are responsible for setting and implementing their own policies on any penalties that might be applied for over-length work and for ensuring that their policies on over-length work are communicated clearly to students (e.g. in student handbooks). Individual TEI policies must be approved in advance by Common Awards Management Board.

See our pages on Assessment Parameters and the Common Awards Calendar for deadlines on submitting policies for approval.
