Welcome to Josephine Butler College's Senior Common Room
The Senior Common Room (SCR) consists of a mixture of staff of the university and members of the local community interested in taking part in the life of the college. It has both a social and community function - providing opportunities for meeting a wide range of people in an informal atmosphere and organising events such as meals, walking clubs, wine tasting, seminars etc. - and a role in working with the junior members of the college (the undergraduates and postgraduate students) in encouraging them to engage with staff and the local community in a less academic capacity than in their departments.
We would love to hear from established members of the university and members of the local community who may bring their understanding of other colleges, the city and region and link us in with existing practice. We are also particularly keen to hear from new members of staff at the university who wish to become members and who are interested in forming a new SCR which draws on and extends the traditional functions of the SCR.
SCR Book Club
New members are always welcome to join the SCR Bookclub (second Thursday of the month at 7pm in the SCR except August). Please get in touch with Eve English (Eve.English@durham.ac.uk) if you would like to join a very informal group.
