Dr Nor Kadir

Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Accounting


Nor joined the Durham University Business School in 2015 from the University of East Anglia, Norwich. Her career as a university lecturer goes back in the year 2000, where she had taught as an Accounting Lecturer at one of the well-established public university in Malaysia. Prior to Durham, Nor had worked as a Lecturer in Accounting in University of East Anglia; and INTO. She was one of the pioneers that taught at the INTO Norwich and had contributed towards the development of an accounting course and programme there. Her work experience in the UK and Malaysia higher education has given her the opportunity to be involved with students from diverse backgrounds.

Prior to her academic career in higher education, Nor had worked as an auditor in a public accountancy firm. She had gained an invaluable insights of clients’ various business models. Among the clients that she had been assigned include the constructions, holidays and clubs, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, poultry feed and fertilisers companies.

Nor obtained her PhD in strategy management from the University of East Anglia in 2012. Her study was based on a grounded theory approach as a method to surface the issues and perspectives from the fieldwork. The study explored the strategic oversight gap as part of the Enterprise Governance Framework introduced by CIMA. Nor enjoys doing qualitative studies. Presently, her research interests evolve around the accounting educations and management accounting research.

Nor is a Module Leader for Research Methods and Methodology in Accounting taught on the MSc Accounting programme. She has been involved in teaching, supervising dissertations at the undergraduates and postgraduates levels and designing a course for the MSc Accounting programme. She had presented at higher education and management accounting research conferences. Her international involvement includes presenting seminar on research methodology in a Malaysian university. Nor has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2015.
