Durham MBA ranked in Global Top 10 for Sustainability
Our Full-time MBA has been ranked 7th in the world by the Corporate Knights Better World MBA Ranking 2019, which evaluates the extent to which programmes integrate sustainability knowledge and skills into business education.
The Durham MBA (Full-time) also ranked as the 3rd best MBA in Europe for its sustainability focus, and scored particularly highly on the gender balance and diversity of its faculty. This identifies the programme as being one of the top ten in the world at instilling a holistic purpose of business in future leaders, ensuring they are equipped with the skills, tools and values to build a more inclusive and prosperous society in sync with our natural world.
Professor Julie Hodges, Associate Dean for MBA Programmes, said:
“This fantastic achievement demonstrates that the Durham MBA is continuing to develop, in line with students expectations and to equip them to lead in the accelerating business environment. We aim to provide a stimulating, challenging and transformative learning environment to build the capabilities of our MBA graduates. The programme provides challenging and leading edge knowledge in global trends such as technology, economics, demographics and the environment, and the impact of such trends on stakeholders in organisations. The significant increase in the School’s position in the rankings this year demonstrates our strong focus on the key themes of internationalisation and social responsibility and ethics, which run throughout the programme.”
Corporate Knights assessed business schools from across 25 countries analysing institutes and centres dedicated to sustainable development; the percentage of core courses that integrate sustainable development; faculty research publications and citations on sustainable development themes; and faculty diversity.
Professor Susan Hart, Executive Dean, said:
“Many business schools around the world responded to the financial crash and its aftermath with a pledge to widen the scope of their MBA programmes to embrace the issues of sustainability and responsible management. Here at Durham University Business School, ethics and sustainability are embedded in our ethos and form an important part of everything we do. That ranges from the development of programmes and curricula to the research efforts of our world-class faculty. We want to create the globally-focused, ethically-minded and forward-thinking business leaders of the future, and this is clearly reflected in this ranking, which puts the Durham MBA as 7th best globally for our sustainability focus.”
Professor Geoff Moore, Associate Dean Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability, said:
“This result reflects the efforts we have been putting in to ensure our MBA students are well-prepared for the business world they will be facing in their careers. We aim to make all our graduates equipped to become architects of a more equitable and sustainable world, and this result encourages us to do even more in this direction."
This is the second year that the Durham MBA (Full-time) has been ranked in the Corporate Knights Better World Ranking. Last year we placed 27th in the world, and have now jumped 20 places to reach our 2019 position of 7th globally.
