Celebrating our collaborative research project with TONI&GUY

Tuesday 10 September marked an evening of celebration within the long-standing collaborative research project between TONI&GUY, the international hairdressing conglomerate, Dr Les Graham and team members within the School. Upon the successful completion of a two-year leadership knowledge-sharing programme, Partners within TONI&GUY were invited to celebrate their achievements with us at Durham Castle.

The Durham team were delighted to welcome more than 100 guests to this event, which was hosted in the Great Hall. An evening of dinner, drinks and a celebration of achievement for programme participants began with inspirational speeches from Dr Les Graham, Nigel Darwin, CEO of TONI&GUY, and Christian Mascolo, Global Franchise Director. Thought-provoking words were shared as to the fundamental role of leadership identity in TONI&GUY, the importance of positive leadership behaviours to maintain the global TONI&GUY brand image, and how a commitment to education and self-development is key to business success.

The programme involved four different leadership knowledge-sharing workshops on topics such as supportive leadership, the role of skills and high-performance work systems in a salon environment, and the importance of passion and wellbeing in the workplace. As a form of research-based education, each of the workshops used findings and results from the five-year collaborative research project to achieve increasing levels of service delivery excellence and client delight within a highly competitive business environment.

The close of the event recognised ten Partners from TONI&GUY who had demonstrated outstanding achievement in depth of leadership knowledge and its application in a salon environment.

We extend our sincere thanks to University colleagues and those within TONI&GUY for their hard work over the past two years to have made the leadership programme and its closing event possible.
