British Islamic Economic Society Conference 2017

The title of this year's conference is “First and Foremost: Halal at the Heart of All Industries."

BIES conference aims to critically discuss current issues in Islamic economics with particular concern to its latest development of Muslim emerging industries and studies. Every year, BSES conferences provide a unique opportunity where academicians, practitioners, and regulators are brought together and co-integrate to directly address the greatest challenges and opportunities in Islamic economy.

Organised by MES-UK in collaboration with Durham Center of Islamic Economic and Finance, this year, BSES conference will address issues and the potential of the world's halal industry with the theme "First and Foremost: Halal at the Heart of All Industries". This event will be held from 29 to 31 July 2017 at Durham University Business School, Durham, UK.

In the light of the strong development of Halal industries, not just in Muslim world but also in Western regions, Halal issue constantly evolve over time. Conjoint efforts from all corresponding fields are necessary to raise Halal awareness and understanding through sharing and promoting recent research and practice. An embodiment of collective understanding is essential to shape the future development of Halal industry which underpins the true Islamic value.

Call for papers

Conference papers are encouraged to be in line, but not limited to, with the following subtopics:

4. Halal Travel and Tourism
5. Halal Education and Awareness
6. Halal Marketing
7. Sociological and Philosophycal Understanding of Halal and Islamic values

9. Regulatory Aspect
10. Governance and Certification
11. Religious Commodification
12. Environmental Concern

In general, submitted papers related and focus on Halal or Islamic issues will be considered.
