Michael Shearer (MBA, 1995-96) used the skills he learned as a Durham MBA student to help evacuate Britons following the Fukushima disaster.

In recognition of his role in leading the on-the-ground evacuation of British nationals and dependents from the Sendai area of Japan following the great eastern Japan earthquake last March Michael was appointed an OBE in the 2012 Diplomatic and Overseas Honours List.

Michael is currently British Deputy High Commissioner in Sierra Leone.
