Durham University Business School is based at three locations in the North East of England.

How to find us

Our main location is in the beautiful, historic city of Durham, which has a UNESCO World Heritage Site at its heart. The other locations are at Ushaw College, just outside the city, home to our MSc Marketing programme, and at the contemporary, riverside Queen’s Campus in Stockton-on-Tees.

Travelling to Durham Campus

Durham is 30 minutes' drive from Newcastle Airport and about 40 minutes from Durham Tees Valley. Both have regular domestic and international flights. Durham is linked to Newcastle Airport by rail and metro. Travellers into Durham Tees Valley can take advantage of the free Sky Express bus service that links the airport to Darlington railway station, with regular connections to Durham.

Approximately 60 InterCity trains from most major centres in the country call at Durham daily including 14 trains from London. The National Express high speed service takes under 3 hours from London King's Cross on the main East Coast line. First Transpennine Express offers frequent links to Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds, while Cross Country links Durham directly with Scotland, the Midlands, and the South West.

Durham is just over 3 hours from Birmingham, 2½ hours from Manchester, 1½ hours from Edinburgh and 45 minutes from York.

A taxi from the station to the School takes around 10 minutes.

Durham is 264 miles from London, 187 miles from Birmingham, 125 miles from Edinburgh and 67 miles from York.

Durham city centre is only two miles from the A1(M).

Travelling from the South

  1. Leave the A1(M) at Junction 61 (exit marked Bowburn, Coxhoe, A177). Take the second exit onto the A177 (signposted Bowburn).
  2. Continue on the A177 through Bowburn and Shincliffe, passing the Rose Tree public house and the East Durham and Houghall Community College.
  3. At the next roundabout, take the first exit onto Stockton Road (signposted Darlington, City Centre, A177).
  4. At the traffic lights turn left onto South Road (signposted Darlington, A177). Drive straight on for about 500 metres then turn right into Elvet Hill Road.
  5. Take the first left onto Mill Hill Lane. Continue up the road; Durham University Business School is at the end of the lane.
  6. Parking is available; visitors should collect a parking permit from Reception on their arrival.

Travelling from the North

  1. Leave the A1(M) at Junction 62 (exit marked Durham and Sunderland, A690). Take the first exit onto the A690. Follow the dual carriageway into Durham.
  2. At Gilesgate roundabout take the third exit onto Leazes Road (signposted City Centre, A690). At Leazes Bowl roundabout take the first exit (signposted Coxhoe, Bowburn, A177).
  3. At traffic signals at the ‘V’ junction bear right onto Church Street (signposted Darlington). Go straight over at the traffic lights (New Inn Public House on your left) onto South Road (signposted Darlington, A177).
  4. Drive straight on for about 500 metres then turn right into Elvet Hill Road.
  5. Take the first left onto Mill Hill Lane. Continue up the road; Durham University Business School is at the end of the lane.
  6. Parking is available; visitors should collect a parking permit from Reception on their arrival.

Travelling to Queen's Campus, Stockton

The closest airport to Queen's Campus is Durham Tees Valley Airport, which is just 8 miles away. Newcastle Airport is approximately 50 minutes drive.

Both airports have regular domestic and international flights.

East Coast Main Line operate high speed services from London, York and Edinburgh to Darlington, with a connection to Thornaby Railway Station.

The Transpennine Express provides a direct approximately hourly service from Manchester Airport, Manchester, Leeds and York to Thornaby.

Northern Rail operate a regular service from Saltburn to Newcastle and Bishop Aukland that stops at Thornaby and Durham.

Queen's Campus, Stockton is linked by the A66 to the A1(M) and the A19.

From A19 North to Queen's Campus

  1. Join the A66, signposted Stockton/Darlington.
  2. Take the first slip road from A66, signposted Teesside Retail Park/Tees Barrage
  3. Turn right at the traffic lights, over the bridge across the A66, following signs for the Barrage.
  4. Turn left at the roundabout.
  5. Turn right at the next small roundabout into East Drive and keep forward into the Main Campus Car Park. Buildings are signposted and large campus maps are located around the car park.

From A19 South to Queen's Campus

Join the slip road for the A66 signpost Stockton/Darlington. Keep on the slip road and follow the signs for the Barrage as described above.

Travelling to Ushaw College
