“Love and the Platonic Transcendent in the Fiction of Iris Murdoch,' by Dr Miles Leeson (University of Portsmouth)
A seminar in the staff and postgraduate research seminar series.
Miles Leeson is currently a part-time lecturer in English Literature. His research interests are contemporary British, Irish and American fiction – specifically the work of Iris Murdoch, Ian McEwan and Martin Amis – as well as French fiction since Voltaire. I also write on a variety of philosophers including Heidegger, Wittgenstein and Plato. The philosophical novel is central to this research.
His first monograph Iris Murdoch: Philosophical Novelist is published in late 2009 and he is currently working on my second, The Philosophical Novel: A History as well as journal articles on post 9/11 fiction and postcolonial fiction and French postmodern thought.
