Annual Lecture 2011: King James Bible

'The King James Bible and the Modern World'

Speaker: Melvyn Bragg

Friday 18th November 2011

5.30 - 6.30, Ann Dobson Hall, Van Mildert College

Melvyn Bragg is an internationally known author and broadcaster, whose voice is instantly recognisable from his long-running Radio 4 series "In Our Time". His latest book "The Book of Books: The Radical Impact of the King James Bible 1611-2011" is one of many published this year to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. However, it is Melvyn Bragg's skill at story telling that the critics have identified as its distinctive feature and thus we are promised an outstanding lecture on 18th November.

Lord Bragg of Wigton, who was made a life peer in 1998, is a true polymath. In 2010 he was made an Honorary Fellow of both the Royal Society and the British Academy, recognising his breadth and depth of knowledge across the perceived cultural divide between science and the arts.

We were very privileged that Lord Bragg agreed to give the second of our annual lectures.
