Uig Landscape Project

The Sites

The excavations conducted between 1996 and 1998, detailed in this report, have revealed important data on many areas of Atlantic Scottish archaeology which were previously poorly known or even entirely absent.  The preliminary analyses indicate that each site is chronologically different from the others with the possibility of slight overlaps discussed later.  The current dates range from the Late Bronze or Early Iron Ages at An Dunan to the post-Medieval at Bereiro.  Within the context of Lewisian archaeology all the sites are very important to our understanding of the nature and development of society and the environment within the Uig area.
