PLEASE NOTE THAT ON THE 14TH OF JULY, THERE WILL BE EXTENSIVE ROAD CLOSURES FOR THE DURHAM FUN RUN.
List of road closures and times here
Parking will be available in town before 4.00 pm in the city carparks. Some parking will also be available from 4.45 pm in the University carparks marked with blue arrows on the map provided below.
Access to the Cathedral will be on foot.
Access to the Cathedral on foot will be via Church Street, across Kingsgate bridge by the Student Union and then along Dun Cow Lane to the Cathedral. The second map below shows this walking route with black arrows.
We are in touch with several attendees requiring disabled access by car and have arrangements to cover this. If you have not contacted us about a need for disabled parking and car access, then please get in touch with cassandra.hodgkiss@durham.ac.uk by noon on Wednesday 12th July.
Please find below some additional information about the Memorial Service for Professor Dame Rosemary Cramp on the 14th of July.
We are pleased to have been able to increase the capacity for the drinks reception following the memorial service to 150 attendees to allow more people to participate. If you have not already booked a place at the reception and would like to attend, please contact Cassandra Hodgkiss by email cassandra.hodgkiss@durham.ac.uk to reserve a place.
We are also pleased to announce that the memorial service will be live streamed via the Cathedral Facebook page, so please do share the link below with friends and colleagues who are not able to attend in person Durham Cathedral | Durham | Facebook
Please remember that there will be road closures in Durham on the 14th July to facilitate the Durham Fun Run. A map showing which roads are closed is available here.
The road closures will begin at 4.00 pm and remain in place until 9.30pm. Footpaths will remain open so that movement through the city on foot is still possible; however, the Fun Run starts from the Market Place at 7.15pm so that area will be very busy at that time.
When leaving the cathedral after the service you will be able to use the pedestrian route down Dun Cow Lane and across Kingsgate bridge by the Student Union. For those heading to the station, the map below shows two routes. The red arrows denote the shortest route which is accessed behind the Palace Green library and follows the river bank along to Framwellgate Bridge where steps provide access to Silver Street. This route has steep banks, uneven walkways and steps.
The black arrows show a longer route to the station which has better pavements. Please note that both routes include steep climbs and steps.
In memory of Rosemary, donations are invited to the Rosemary Cramp Fund
