Our Accommodation Buildings
St Mary's has magnificent neo-classical buildings which are set in spacious landscaped grounds. The two buildings - Fergusson and Williamson - provide different types of accommodation: both have their own charm and advantages, from ensuite rooms to rooms that are especially quiet, or look out on to woodland or have a view of the Cathedral. Undergraduates and postgraduates are accommodated in both buildings, often mixed but with some dedicated areas as described below.
Fergusson Building has almost 150 study bedrooms, the vast majority being single standard rooms with shared bathroom facilities. The College Officers and the administrative team are all situated in Fergusson Building, along with many of the main College facilities, such as the College dining room, library and reading room, toastie bar, laundry facilities, shop and bar. The JCR also has one of its Common Rooms located in Fergusson.
Williamson building has just over 150 study bedrooms, all of which are either single standard rooms with shared bathroom facilities or en-suite. The rooms with wheel-in showers are located in this building. The JCR has a common room located in Williamson and the MCR (postgraduates) Common Room is also located here, as is the College gym. There are also laundry facilities located in the basement.
St Mary's College has a long history of pioneering the education of women. Although the College went fully mixed in 2005, we have retained provision in the College for women who wish to be accommodated in an all women's section of the College. The Boughton Wing provides accommodation for women students only at the West side of the Williamson Building. It is a self contained block of 16 single rooms, all of which are ensuite. In addition there is a small kitchen for self-catering during the vacation period.
The Shepherd Wing
Attached to the Fergusson Building is the Shepherd Wing which normally provides dedicated postgraduate and undergraduate returner accommodation. The rooms are a mix of single standard and en-suite accommodation, with two small kitchens, communal bathroom and shower facilities, and a small study/social area.
The North East Wing
Attached to the other side of the Fergusson Building, next to the Cloisters, is the North East Wing, which provides predominantly postgraduate accommodation but also a small amount of undergraduate accommodation. This Wing has kitchens to allow postgraduates to self-cater during the vacation periods.
