St Mary's College

Welcome to students with places in October 2017

Message from Principal

As Principal of St Mary's College, welcome! Congratulations on all the achievements that have secured you a place not only at Durham University, but at Mary's. On behalf of the whole College community, we hope to be able to share the excitement of being a member of the College with you when you arrive in September/October.

For those of you who will be arriving as new undergraduates, we appreciate that coming to University can be a daunting experience. Please be assured that our Freshers' Reps are looking forward to introducing you to life in College. Induction week will be an unforgettable way of launching what I hope will be a highly enjoyable and successful time at Durham.

For those of you who will be coming to Durham for postgraduate study, we appreciate that, for many, studying in Durham will be a very different experience. Many of our postgraduates are drawn from across the world and this may be the first time you have been to the UK, let alone Durham; whatever your circumstances the College is here to help you to settle in.

St Mary's College is a very special place. We have a deserved reputation for being one of the most friendly and supportive communities, with a huge range of social, arts, sporting and academic opportunities. Our team, from the undergraduate student members of our Junior Common Room (JCR) and the postgraduate student members of our Middle Common Room (MCR) through to the College Officers and student support team led by the Vice-Principal, are here to help support you and make the most of your time as a student at Durham.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Professor Simon Hackett
