Welcome to students with places in October 2020
Message from the Principal
Welcome to St Mary's College! On behalf of the whole College community, I congratulate you on all the achievements that have gained you a place at Durham University and at St Mary’s. Our college is a warm and vibrant place, and we all look forward to you becoming part of the community.
If you are a new undergraduate you will be greeted on arrival, not only by our College staff, but also by a team of Freshers' Reps who are looking forward to introducing you to life in College and around Durham. They will help to make induction week less stressful and more fun, and will create an environment where you will quickly make friends and find your feet.
For those arriving in Durham for postgraduate study, we know that Durham may be a quite different experience from your undergraduate studies. Our postgraduates are drawn from all around the world; if this is your first time in Durham, and perhaps your first time in the UK, please be assured that we will do all we can to help you settle in.
St Mary's College is a strong community; we have a long history of expanding the educational possibilities for our members, and an exciting vision for the college’s ongoing development. We are renowned for being one of the most friendly and supportive communities, with a wide range of social, arts, sporting and academic opportunities. Our team, from the undergraduate student members of our Junior Common Room (JCR) and the postgraduate student members of our Middle Common Room (MCR) through to the College Officers and student support team led by the Vice-Principal, are here to help support you and make the most of your time as a student at Durham.
I look forward to meeting you before long!
