The College Library
The college library offers two floors of books and study spaces. We offer 24-hour opening for college members, and a self-service system for book issuing and returning. Between 9.00am and 2.00pm on weekdays the college librarian is also on hand to help.
St John’s has one of the most extensive and accessible college library collections in Durham. We hold around 27,000 books and usually add about 1,000 new titles each year. In addition to offering over 40 study spaces the library catalogue is fully searchable on-line; allowing easy access to the details of library stock and your own loan records.
Given John’s history and our own taught BA and MA programmes in Theology and Ministry at Cranmer Hall the library is proud of its particularly fine theology collection. Some 75% of the library book holdings are in the subject and we subscribe to a number of specialist journals in theology and ministry.
We are currently in the process of building a new college library, the Learning Resource Centre. This will be open in 2019. Please click here for more information on the LRC.
The college library handbook can be downloaded here PDF format.
The IT Suite
In addition to the extensive IT provision of the university, the college supports its own internal IT facilities for students in the form of a dedicated IT Room on college premises. It contains a number of desktop computers, as well as printing facilities. WiFi is also available college wide.

The reason I love St John's College is that it functions like a family. Being a small community there is a unity between the years and across friendship groups, which helps to create a welcoming and friendly dynamic. There is something for everyone: with bountiful sports teams, societies, music groups and theatre companies, John's is a place where each individual is recognised and celebrated for what they bring to the table. The college itself is charming - an idyllic row of houses in prime location along the Bailey - it truly feels and looks like a home. I adore the sense of college spirt, and am honoured to be part of such a lively, diverse, yet close-knit community.
