Accommodation at St John's is varied and full of character. Some of our buildings are historic, listed buildings while others are more modern and purpose built. All undergraduates are housed in buildings on the Bailey, with many enjoying views of the Cathedral or accross the River Wear.
St John's is the only college with all of its postgraduate housing sited on the Bailey. If you are prospective postgraduate student, wanting to live on the doorstep of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then St John's is the college that offers you the best chance to do that. We currently have three dedicated postgraduate houses, numbers 10, 17 and 23 South Bailey, as well as rooms within the main set of buildings.
Postgraduate lets are for 50 weeks of the year, and include internet and all utilities. Full catering is also provided during the undergraduate term time, with self-catering facilities provided for all other meals.

As a ‘Johnian’, I have always felt proud of my college. St. John’s first attracted me by its small size and central location. However, what impresses me most after I came here are the friendly and supportive atmosphere and the various academic and social activities. Our passionate and caring staff make the college really like a home where I feel comfortable and secure. The Broaderlands seminars, weekly formal dinners and varieties of parties give me opportunities to develop my interdisciplinary thinking, to make new friends from all over the world, and to gain insights into different cultures.
The college system is one of the reason why I chose Durham University and the experience at John’s will definitely be a wonderful memory in my life.
