Fees and funding

It is very important that you have sufficient funds in place to meet your tuition fees and living costs before you start your course. The University has a small amount of hardship funding available to help students who started their studies with a sound financial plan which was compromised by circumstances beyond their control, but it is unable to help students who started their studies with insufficient funds in place to meet their tuition fees and living costs.

Information for undergraduates

St John's College adopts the University's pricing for College accommodation, with some modifications to additional charges and discounts. These include not imposing additional charges for 3/4 and double beds, and not providing discounts for rooms with no sink.

Payment terms and general information

St Johns College is an independent College within Durham University, which means that accommodation invoices are paid directly to St John’s College, while the main University Finance Department raise tuition invoices, holding different bank details from the College. College accommodation fees are split into three equal instalments, invoiced on the first day of term and payable by BACS transfer (bank details available on the invoice). College additional fees, if the student has opted in to them, are added to the first term's accommodation invoice. Payments are due within 30 days in the first term, and within 14 days in the subsequent two terms. Failure to pay by the due date may result in a late payment charge. If you are experiencing financial hardship, or there is a delay in your funding, please contact the Finance Team on johns.finance@durham.ac.uk who will be happy to take any queries. More detailed information on how to pay for accommodation, additional services, and tuition is sent out to new students as part of their welcome packs by email before the start of the academic year.
