Covid-19 - Helping Hands
The country’s efforts to save lives by staying at home is having a profound effect on businesses and individual livelihoods. Whilst the College is able as an organisation to weather the disruption of the next few months, this is a very difficult time for many of our colleagues and students who are already facing personal financial hardship.
We are calling on alumni and friends of College, if you are able, to offer a helping hand to the members of the St John’s College community who are most in need at this time.
The College and SJCR are establishing a Helping Hands Appeal so that those in need can make ends meet and have enough money to cover essential living costs. All donations to this fund will go to individuals in financial hardship.
The SJS (St John's Society, the former alumni society) has also generously pledged to match £1 for every £1 donation, up to £5000. This means any amount you give will be doubled.
Examples of what a donation would provide –
- £10 Cost of an NHS prescription
- £20 top up for mobile phone on pay as you go
- £40 weekly food shop
- £100 one month’s utilities bills for a household
If you are in a position to do so, please consider making a donation here.
This request is not without consideration to how recent events may have brought you serious challenges and uncertainty in your own lives. Please be assured of our thoughts and prayers during this time.
We also invite you to take part in the St John's community online. Students and the SJCR have been proactive in ensuring the continuation of community life via virtual activities and groups for everyone.
