DEI Online Seminar Series: Decarbonisation of electricity: a view from The Pacific

20th May 2020, 13:00 to 14:00, Via Zoom, Dr Andrew Crossland

This seminar will look at the technical aspects of decarbonisation in Pacific Islands and the mechanisms by which these are funded. These two aspects are often highly interlinked and as such we explore how finance and technology work together and also hinder each other in island nations.

Andrew Crossland is a former DEI PhD student who's research focussed on solar and energy storage for networks and also on microgrids in East Africa. Andrew runs the MyGridGB energy tracking platform and he is a director of the consultancy Advance Further Energy Ltd which focuses on "enabling low carbon transitions" in the domestic energy, policy and microgrid sectors. He previously worked as an energy specialist at SolarCentury focussed on battery and solar projects in the UK and East Africa. He subsequently took at role at world leading organisation, Infratec, in New Zealand where he works on an all manner of low carbon projects...including putting power lines on an active volcano!
