From politics to poetry, fiction to feminism, the Durham Book Festival welcomes a host of writers and events for reader of all ages this October.
Durham University is a partner in the festival and has invited award-winning poet Sinead Morrisey to be this year’s Festival Laureate.
Durham Book Festival Laureate Sinéad Morrissey reads 'the poems that made me', including poems by Wilfred Owen and Elizabeth Bishop. Sinéad Morrissey is the innaugural Poet Laureate of Belfast and was the winner of the T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize in 2014.

Professor Michael Rowan-Robinson will be delivering this lecture, asking is evidence crucial to science? Surely itʼs obvious the answer is yes? We collect evidence, try to model it with mathematical theories, and then test those theories with new observations and experiments. The redshifts of galaxies are evidence for the expansion of the universe. The cosmic microwave background radiation is indirect evidence for a hot big bang.
Dr Gabor Thomas, University of Reading will give the lecture reflecting upon the results of a major scheme of excavation targeting Anglo-Saxon settlement remains preserved beneath the modern village of Lyminge, Kent, led by the University of Reading and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
