How to apply
We strongly encourage applicants to submit applications as early as possible, although there is no formal deadline.
Please consult our entry requirements before making an application to study Postgraduate Physics.
Please complete the Durham University On-Line application form, which can be found at https://www.dur.ac.uk/postgraduate/apply/ .
1.Research section(s) of interest: select one or more research sections from the following:
- Advanced Instrumentation
- Astronomy and Astrophysics
- Quantum Light and Matter
- Condensed Matter Physics
- Elementary Particle Theory
Please indicate on the application form your current University and Degree. Also upload all appropriate certificate and transcripts
a. provide contact details (specifically emails) for 2 referees who we can contact for a reference. We would prefer it if you did not upload the reference yourself, however, if you do please ensure it is letter-headed paper with contact information to allow us to confirm it is an origin;
b. ensure you UNTICK the boxes on the application form next to referee details which allows us to request a reference before an offer is made;
4. Research Proposal
We suggest you provide a short document of a few paragraphs (no longer than 1 page). This will give us an idea of your research interests;
6. English Language certificates
For anyone whose first language is not English we require an English Language Certificates (sat within 24 months of the anticipated start date of your course)
7. Funding source
Please detail on the application which funding source you are interested in or have secured, for example CSC, DDS,
Please note that the University application system can be slow to complete. The Admissions Department have been made aware of the issue. In the meantime, please accept our apologies.
There are no set deadlines for applications to the Postgraduate Degrees in the Department of Physics, but there may be deadlines attached to certain studentships, awards or specific projects offered by the Department. Please check the relevant research section for details.
