Durham University

Strike action

Members of the higher education union, UCU, have voted in favour of further industrial action at Durham University, to take place over 14 days in February and March 2020.

These web pages provide further information for our staff and students as well as outline our commitment to continuing to provide excellent standards of education for our students during this period.

We understand the outcome of the 2019 pay negotiations and the proposed changes to USS are important issues that concern many of our staff and we respect the right of staff to take part in industrial action.

However, we are disappointed that a decision in favour of further strike action was taken when national talks on the future of the USS pension scheme are still ongoing and when efforts to resolve a parallel pay dispute are registering progress around casual employment, workload issues and the gender pay gap.

We regret the impact on our students and their education and will be working to mitigate this impact to ensure they continue to achieve their learning outcomes.

New information and updates will continue to be posted on these pages in the coming days and weeks.
