Statement on alumna Sarah Everard

Statement issued Thursday 15 April, 2021.
Professor Stuart Corbridge, Vice-Chancellor of Durham University, said: “Sarah was a popular and lively member of our University community and retained a large Durham University friendship group. Our thoughts remain with her family and friends.
“In addition to an online vigil organised by our Students’ Union leaders, we have established a web page where members of our community can share tributes and memories of Sarah to celebrate and remember her life.
“We are also planning to work with Sarah’s family, college and department to consider other ways that the University and our wider community can celebrate Sarah’s life and honour her memory.”

We are working with Sarah’s college and department on how the University and our wider community can pay tribute to Sarah and honour her memory. Our Students’ Union leaders have organised an online vigil and a memorial site outside their building for tributes."

Professor Stuart Corbridge, Vice-Chancellor of Durham University, said: “We have been made aware of the situation and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Sarah at this difficult time. We have contacted the Metropolitan Police and offered our assistance should it be required.”
