MMath: Master of Mathematics (European Studies)
This is a four year degree in mathematics combining the benefits of the MMath degree and the BSc (European Studies), in that the degree incorporates a year abroad studying mathematics in an overseas university while enabling you to graduate after four years of a study with a Masters degree. The main difference to the MMath degree is that in MMath (European Studies) the third year of study is taken abroad at an overseas partner university. Your performance in the year abroad is assessed by the overseas university using their standard examination procedure. The results are converted to their equivalent Durham grades and count fully towards the award of your final degree. The years 1, 2 and 4 are identical to the MMath degree. This programme is part of the Erasmus programme.
Currently, the overseas partner universities in this programme are
- Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum, Germany
- Universite de Fribourg, Switzerland
- Universite de Neuchatel, Switzerland
The courses at Ruhr-Universitaet are generally given in German, whereas Fribourg and Neuchatel are universities for students with language skills in French. Note that you need to have the appropriate language qualification of a level I module in the language of tuition.
For more details, you are welcome to consult the MMath(Euro) booklet. For individual queries concerning this programme, please contact the department's Erasmus coordinator, Dr Wilhelm Klingenberg or, alternatively, Dr Norbert Peyerimhoff.
