Success for Pawel Rudnicki, second year MMATH student

(8 March 2018)

Congratulations to Pawel Rudnicki, one of our second year MMATH students, for achieving third place in the recent Imperial Maths Competition final in London (
The competition (similar to the American Putnam competition) was open to our undergraduates of all levels . The first part of the selection was done locally, organised by MathSoc, which are thanked as well for being proactive with this event in particular.

Mark Powell and Andrew Lobb gave time to mentor the 36 Durham students (of which 8 were female) who entered the competition. Some students were from programmes other than our own, in particular Physics. Pawel commented that these sessions were beneficial, and found them to be a good training before the first selection on 25 November 2017.

Pawel and Stefanos Rodinos, a first year BSc Physics student, were amongst the 25 UK UG students who qualified for the final in London, which took place on March 4th. An excellent representation from Durham and our warmest wishes of continued success to Pawel and Stefanos.
