Pure Maths Colloquium: Morse theory and periodic geodesics

Presented by Hans-Bert Rademacher, Leipzig

9 November 2015 16:00 in CM221

The existence and stability of periodic geodesics on compact manifolds can be studied using equivariant Morse theory on the free loop space of the manifold. We present an overview on results for Riemannian and Finsler metrics and discuss how recent results from string topology can be used to prove resonance statements.
These recent results are joint work with Nancy Hingston.
