Numerical Analysis Seminars: Uniqueness for Mimisers of Random Functionals

Presented by Nicolas Dirr, Cardiff University

24 January 2014 14:00 in CM 105

We consider a class of integral functionals which consist of
i) a Dirichlet form which penalises spatial oscillations
ii) a double well potential with two minima, and
iii) a random term.

Without random term, these functionals have different minimizers, while the presence of the randomness enforces uniqueness for a certain range of the parameters in the problem.
