Topological Solitons Seminar: An integral formulation of Yang-Mills equations and its relation to integrable field theories

Despite the fact that the integral form of the equations of electrodynamics is well known, the same is not true for non-abelian gauge theories. In this talk we present the integral form of the Yang-Mills equations using a generalization, for two-form connections, of the non-abelian Stokes theorem. The approach leads to the solution of long standing problem, namely the construction of conserved charges which are invariant under general gauge transformations. We shall comment that such integral formulation
of gauge theories relates in a quite elegant way to integrable field
theories in lower dimensions.
