Maths HEP Lunchtime Seminars: Differential Geometry for String Theory, beyond Riemann

Presented by Imtak Jeon , Sogang University

6 July 2011 14:45 in E102 (Engineering Building)

While the fundamental object in Riemannian geometry is the metric,
closed string theories put a two-form gauge field and a dilaton on the same
footing as the metric. In this talk we introduce a novel differential geometry
which treats those three objects in a unified manner, and manifest not only the
gauge symmetries (diffeomorphism plus one-form gauge symmetry) but also the
O(D,D) T-duality. We also discuss how to couple to Yang-Mills theory.
