Topological Solitons Seminar: Sine-Gordon Breather Formation in the Presence of a Potential Well

As demonstrated by Piette & Zakrzewski, upon encountering a potential well a breather may split into a kink-antikink pair, one of the solitons remaining trapped in the well, the other escaping. In this talk I will present some results of investigations into attempting to reverse this phenomenon; that is creating a breather outside the well from a kink-antikink pair.
