Pure Maths Colloquium: Braids: classical and new

Presented by Vladimir Vershinin, University of Montpellier, France

19 November 2007 16:15 in CG 91

We give a survey on braid groups and subjects connected with them.
We start with the initial definition, then we give several interpretations
as well as several presentations of these groups. Markov and Garside normal form are given next. We finish with the generalizations of braids also classical like Artin groups or recent ones like the inverse braid monoid.
