Biography

Will originally graduated with an LLB (Hons) from Durham in 2007, where he was a member of University College, having served on the Executive Committee of its JCR and having held the role of Secretary-General of the Durham Branch of the European Law Students Association in its inaugural year.  He was also a member of the Durham Law Society.  Since graduating, Will entered the world of business primarily engaged in project development and consultancy work.  Having always held a strong interest in Entrepreneurship, he has established multiple businesses and currently serves as Director at Your Smart Home Limited (www.yoursmarthome.co.uk)

Throughout this time, Will has maintained his research interested in International Law, specifically the Law of Armed Conflict and International Human Rights.  It is this passion that has led him to return to Durham to conduct further research into the area, working towards achieving a Masters of Jurisprudence.

Current Research

Under the supervision of Ms Aoife O'Donoghue, Dr Matthew Saul and Professor Michael Schmitt, Will's current research examines the relationship between Military Necessity and Targeting under International Humanitarian Law, particularly examining how Military Necessity's impact upon the Targeting process has been affected in the light of contemporary armed conflict.  Will's research will also touch upon targeting and cyberattacks, allowing him to bring his unique position of being a technology specialist and owner of a technology company, together with his legal interests.
