Biography

Dame Vera Baird QC is Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria since her election in 2012. She was previously the Member of Parliament for Redcar from 2001 to 2010 serving in Prime Minister Tony Blair’s government from 2006 to 2010 mostly as Solicitor General for England and Wales. She was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to women and equality. Dame Vera is a member of the Durham Law School’s Advisory Board.
